By applying to the Canadian Wine Sommelier Championship, the entrant:

1- agrees that the organisers of the event have the final right to determine the eligibility of applicants to the competition;

2- must be living in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao, and have the right to work in at least one of these jurisdictions;

3- must be in full-time employment as a sommelier or food and beverage professional from hotel, restaurant, bar or club;

4- must have sufficient skills in English, both written and oral, to participate in the competition, and understand and agree that the competition will be conducted in English only;

5- cannot be employed by a wine agent or wine distributor;

6- agrees that all study materials provided by the organizers are protected by copyright laws, and may not be reproduced, republished, distributed, transmitted, displayed, broadcasted or otherwise exploited in any manner without prior written permission of the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao;

7- agrees to attend the Semi-Final in Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou or Hong Kong (dependent on work proximity); to be identified during the application process;

8- agrees that no compensation will be provided for travel or any other costs related to participation in the Semi-Final;

9- agrees that should he/she be named as a Semi-Finalist, he/she will participate in the Final to be held in Hong Kong in late November 2017 (airfare/train/ferry travel and hotel, as appropriate, will be paid by the organizers, and most meals will be provided);

10- agrees that should he/she be named as the Champion (i.e. the winner of the overall Competition), he/she will chronicle his/her travel throughout Canada using photos, videos, social media, and written submissions, and will work cooperatively with Destination Canada on this project;

11- agrees to abide by the rules of the competition and give the organizers and their designated partners the right to use his/her name, as well as images, videos, and written submissions on relevant digital and social media channels, as well as in related publicity;

12- agrees that should he/she be named as Champion, and he/she not be able to complete the travel to Canada in the designated time period, that he/she will forego all rights to undertake the travel and the Grand Prize and all associated rights and responsibilities will be passed to the first runner-up of the competition; and,

13- agrees that all responsibilities to obtain the necessary travel documents for this competition, including valid passport and visa, as required, are the sole responsibility of the competitor, and neither the Government of Canada nor its partners will be liable for any failure of the competitor to ensure his/her documents are in place.
